7 Verses for Mental Stillness

05/04/2026
In all moments ask, Why O Mind,
do you desire this world full of suffering?

Tilopa, the Tibetan sage states

1. Do not recall; 2. Do not imagine
3. Do not think 4. Do not examine
5. Do not control 7. Just rest.

Bodhidharma, the first patriach states:

When the mind stirs inside,
the world arises outside.
Seek nothing, and all is obtained.

Shantideva, the bodhisattva states:
All suffering arises from
seeking pleasure for onself,
and all happiness arises from
wishing compassion for others.

Dogen, the Zen mendicant states:
A fool sees himself as another;
But a wise man sees others as himself.
To study the self is to forget the self.

Musashi declares:

Think lightly of yourself,
but deeply of the world.
From one thing,
know ten thousand things.

With these teachings,
make thy mind a fortress of mindfulness,
in each moment, serve your purpose,
invoke the inner light of the Buddha Dharma.
